How GPS (Global Positioning System) Works

The GPS (Global Positioning System) is a satellite based technology for providing geo-location of any object on earth. This technology was originally developed by the US government for military use but later open to public and commercial use.

The GPS (Global Positioning System) is a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) that provides geolocation (location/position on earth) and time information to a GPS receiver in all weather conditions, anywhere on or near the Earth.

The GPS (Global Positioning System) satellites are revolves around earth in such a way that at each place on the planet, at least three to four GPS (Global Positioning System) satellites are visible at any time. All GPS satellites keep on transmitting information about their position and the current time at regular intervals. These signals are intercepted by your GPS receiver, which calculates how far away each satellite is based on how long it took for the messages to arrive. These signals are traveled at the speed of light.
